With the beginning of Cancer season, we shift from the mental stimulation of Gemini and drop deep into our body, emotions and inner waters. We solidified connections and gained much needed information during Gemini season. Now we are being invited to dive into our emotional world and body.
Cancer: 21 June - 22 July
Characteristics
Cancer represented by the symbol of the crab is the protectress of the home and family. Attached to their home and the safety it provides, Cancer is a natural at caring and nurturing others. Often found in caring professions. Their appearances can hold a moon-like round face similar to that of their ruling planet, the moon.
The crab is able to walk on dry land and on the floors of the deep ocean. Being a marine animal it is ruled by the moon like most water creatures. It therefore experiences many high and low tides within its emotional body.
When the crab becomes too big for its shell then it needs to leave its shell behind in order to find a bigger home. Its soft exterior/body is then exposed to the elements, as it transitions from one home to another. This represents the vulnerability this sign embodies.
Likewise we might feel more vulnerable with our emotions. More exposed than usual during Cancer season. Sharing our vulnerability makes us stronger. In life we often try very hard to make things seem like they are ok, when they really are not. We put on a brave face to the outside world. Our vulnerability makes us brave. Our inner struggles are part of real life.
Where in your life are holding on too tight to these high standards all the time? Of not being vulnerable to others with what you are truly going through.
Every previous sign has laid the foundation for us to move on to the evolved sign next line. Where Gemini was busy sorting out its intellect, Cancer is now more concerned with how it feels. Experiencing deep emotional waves and extremes in our moodiness are often present during the season of the Crab. Allow the waves to crash and simmer - in other words, witness your emotions without judgment, and feel deep into their hidden messages.
Ruling Planet
Their emotions ebb and flow like the tides and the moon. Making them highly intuitive, instinctive and empathic. Naturally nostalgic, Cancer feels deeply for anything that gives them sentimental value. Learn more about the Moon in our upcoming Masterclass.
Astrological House
Connected to the fourth house in astrology which governs the home, family, ancestry, origin, roots, background and maternal lineage.
Modality
Every astrological sign is assigned to one of the three modalities, cardinal, fixed and mutable. Every modality contains one of the elemental signs making them four per every modality. Cancer is one of the cardinal signs. Many might be surprised by that. As cardinal signs are initiators, leaders and the first. However, Cancer desires to lead in the home and family. Cardinal signs initiate us into a new season with the solstices and equinoxes. Cancer season leads us into the beginning of the summer.
Element
One of three water signs, Cancer owes its intuition, empathetic and sensitive nature to its elemental association of water. Low vibrations of water is moodiness, hypersensitivity, melancholy, finding it hard to move on from the past.
Body Astrology
Every sign is connected to a body part. For Cancer, being ruled by the moon and water, it is the womb and breasts. The inner waters of a woman are mirrored in the lunar fluctuation of the moon cycle. Just like the waves rise and lower every month, so do the inner waters of a woman with her menstrual cycle.
Human Design
The Gate of 39, a design for moodiness, is connected to the energy of Cancer. The mood swings, from hope to pain, is the energy of the Solar Plexus and not its potential awareness. Patience is the key.
